MANILA, Philippines --- International beauties will gather once again in the Philippines as they compete in the 2012 Miss Earth beauty contest to be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on November 24, 2012.

Up to 90 candidates from around the world will compete in the environment-driven beauty pageant, which was earlier announced to be held in Bali, Indonesia but was later transferred to the Philippines.

This developed as Miss Philippines Nicole Schmitz placed in the Top 15 at the 2012 Miss International beauty contest held in Okinawa, Japan last Sunday night. This is the fifth time in a row that the Philippines made it to the Top 15 semis of the same pageant, in which the country has already won four times since 1960. Miss Japan Ikumi Yoshimatsu won this year's beauty contest, the first for her country.

Now on its 12th year, organizers said that this year's Miss Earth beauty pageant aligns itself with the United Nations General Assembly Declaration of 2012 as the "International Year of Sustainable Energy for All."
"The search is now on for the next environmental beauty who will serve as an ambassadress and protector of the Earth's natural resources. This year, our Earth has experienced increased calamities and the need to restore it has reached an alarming level. Coming together for a special advocacy, the Miss Earth beauties will also address the urgency of the Earth's restoration and healing in a powerful motion for environment awareness through the power of prayer to give that light of hope to every nation, to be as one towards a renewed Earth,'' said Lorraine Schuck, EVP, Carousel Productions, at the pre-launch for this year's beauty contest.

Countries expected to debut in the pageant are Angola, Cook Islands, Moldova, and Reunion Island. Returning countries for the contest are Albania, Argentina, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Fiji, Finland, Gabon, Haiti, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Malta, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Poland, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Turks and Caicos, and Uruguay. So far, 78 candidates have been selected to take part in the contest.
