In Abuja recently some beautiful women came out to contest the Miss Peace Ambassador 2012 Pageant. Our reporter was there and brought back this report.

The elusive quest for peace in Nigeria has gone to the catwalks with young beauties strutting their stuff on their way to becoming the Miss Peace Ambassador.

The peagent is an initiative of the publisher of Alpha Plus Mega Magazine, Amb. Kingsley Amafibe who put together the Miss Ambassador for Peace contest to pick up a lady that would help fight for peace in the country.

He said the aim of the contest is the promotion of peace and the environment in the country. The search is with the aim of getting a volunteer to join in the fight against violence and bring peace.

The government has used various means to tackle violence and insecurity amongst other vices that have bedevilled the nation; therefore Amafibe urged the government to support the Miss Ambassador for peace programme and work with the winner in promoting peace.

28 of the 36 states of the federation were represented. The organizers had wanted more. "The remaining states didn't show interest and as well didn't buy the form, so we went ahead with the ones that had shown interest," Amafibe said.

One of the highlights of the night was a song, "We Need Peace" performed by various Abuja-based artistes.
The contestants appeared in different outfits and had a dance performance. To determine the winner, there were various stages. Amongst the contestants, 10 were selected and asked questions on current affairs.

Five of the contestants scaled into the final stage in which they were asked what they intend to do if they emerge as the winner of the competition.

Miss Delta emerged the first runner up while Miss Cross River emerged the second runner up of the competition.

And after the graceful beauties had strutted their stuff, Miss Beauty Istifanus, who represented Kaduna State emerged Miss Ambassador for peace.

She is a student of Mass Communications from the University of Jos. Her first pet project in order to achieve peace in the country will be to create a forum where she should create an understanding between the Christians and Muslims. She also plans to visit schools and eligthen fellow students on embracing peace.

One of the guests at the show was the 2011 winner of the M-Net Glo Naija Sings Christian Doherty also known as Ceedee who noted that the event would go a long way in promoting peace while he expects the queen to use the 'spirit of peace' in her to promote peace in the country.

"As she travels around the country, she will keep talking about peace. Peace is all we need in Nigeria. Whatever her strategies are, I am sure it would be channelled to bringing peace in the country," Doherty said.

"The more we continue to preach peace, the more it gets to the minds of the people that it is necessary to live peacefully," Kevin Pam, 2009 winner of Big Brother Africa said.

"Though not all the ladies would win the competition he said, "The ladies are all Ambassadors for Peace, the wise ones would want to promote peace in their various capacities."

Contesting in the pageant shouldn't be the main thing but Pam said they shouldn't be scared of taking their peace campaigns to anywhere in the country no matter the situation as the crown on the head of the winner is a call for sacrifice.

In his words: "The thing is that if you want to promote peace, you shouldn't be scared of going to any place that is affected because if you are called to look after the people living in abject poverty, you can't be scared of going to such places, if they are called to promote peace, they should have the confidence to go there. Like when we wanted to celebrate our daughter's one year birthday with the refugees in Jos, it was risky but we still travelled with her, I told my wife that we had to do it. It's all about sacrifice."

Various awards were given to some of the contestants. Miss Benue won the Most Promising African Model, Miss FCT won the Most Social Model, Miss Edo won the Most Well-behaved Model, Miss Adamawa won the Best Cat walking Model, while Miss Delta won the Most Active Model among others.

The winner, Miss Beauty said after her tenure as Miss Ambassador for Peace in Nigeria, she would want to aim for global and world competitions. She was presented with a Volks Wagen Bug car.
